Why should you keep spirituality in mind when decorating your space?
No matter how big or small your dwelling is you want to feel like you are supported by every space and object in your home. Decluttering your home can be a cathartic spiritual release as much as any other ayahuasca retreat. Even though you’ve heard it a million times from your therapist, “Our external space is a reflection of our internal state”, (as above so below). Read below to discover interesting ways to invite positive energy into your home.
1) Declutter your stagnant areas
If you’re prone to hoarding trinkets and amassing more than you need in your day-to-day, you may be accumulating negative dense energy that is preventing good energy from coursing through your home.
Decorating with personal artifacts that have positive memories serves as a constant reminder of gratitude invites the possibility for more good memories and reinforces a healthy sense of identity in your day to day.
2) Optimize your Circadian rhythm by being mindful of types of lighting
Hygge –
The Danish and Norwegian word hygge (pronounced hue-gah) refers to a sense of cozy togetherness or feeling content with the present moment. Scandinavians are well known for their masterful use of low lighting to warm up a space to create a sense of warmth and comfort. Overhead lighting can be hard on the eyes and in turn, can deregulate your circadian rhythm.
For alertness, you need blue and/or blue-green light – which has a very high “temperature” rating.
For calm leading to bedtime, you need much “cooler” light, in the yellow-orange-red area of the spectrum. It has a much lower “temperature” rating.
3) Decorate your home based on your astrological Venus placement
Although your Sun sign can give you cues on your holistic personality and how to decorate your home, your Venus sign is what your soul deems as beautiful and worthy of awe.
For example, a Venus in Pisces in your chart may signal dreamy and ethereal cues through your home’s decor. Pisces Venus placements have an other-worldly feel to them. Flowing pieces that embrace femininity and softness, almost fairytale in their feel.
4) Bring greenery indoors
Biophilic design has been on an upward trend since humans began to dwell indoors more than outdoors. It’s extremely important to maintain proper air ventilation indoors and one easy and free way to purify the air in your home is to bring plants indoors.
My favorite plants to have indoors are English Ivy and Bamboo Palm as they are scientifically proven to diffuse toxic chemicals like Formaldehyde, Benzene, and Trichloroethylene. Plants with larger leaves like philodendrons purify the air quickly. If you have pets, make sure the plants you bring into your home are nontoxic.
5) Contemplate the flow of your home based on furnishings arraingment
Being mindful of the arraignment of your home’s furnishings is an essential part of feeling at peace and inspired as you dwell. First, you want to establish the use for each space in your home and tailor orientation, scale, and function for each piece you decide to add. Less is more as it allows you to flow freely through your home and create active circulation corridors.
Choose furniture that is goal-orientated. Meaning it serves a specific function like creating meaningful conversation spaces allowing you to bond easier with your loved ones and friends. Redefine what a conversation pit looks like and casually involve its function in your home.
